Pyong Ahn Hyung (Peaceful Confidence Forms) | ||
The Pyong Ahn forms were created in 1901 by Itosu Yasutsune, a Shorin-ryu Karate master on Okinawa. The words Pyong Ahn translate to "Peaceful Confidence". The diagrams of the forms resemble a balanced scale. | ||
Chil Sung Hyung (Seven Star Forms) | ||
The Chil Sung forms were created in 1952 by Hwang Kee, founder of the Moo Duk Kwan in Korea. The words Chil Sung translate to "Seven Star" and refer to the North Star, seventh star of Ursa Minor (the little dipper). Just as the North Star is used for navigation, the motivation of the Chil Sung Hyungs is to guide the practitioner to become a better martial artist. | ||

1. Begin the form (Hyung) from the ready stance (Choon Be Jaseh). | ||
2. Look to your left, step with your left foot into a left foot forward front stance (Chun Gul Jaseh), simultaneously perform a left hand low block (Ha Dan Mahk Kee). | ||
3. Look straight ahead, step with your right foot into a right foot forward front stance (Chun Gul Jaseh), simutaenously perform a right hand center punch (Choong Dan Kong Kyuk). | ||
4. Look back to your right, pivot on your left foot as you step back and turn 180 degrees to your right into a right foot forward front stance (Chun Gul Jaseh), simultaneously perform a right hand low block (Ha Dan Mahk Kee). | ||
5. Bring your right hand up to the height of your solar plexus (Myung Chi) then quickly snap it down performing low back fist strike (Cap Kwon Kong Kyuk), simultaneously shift into a side stance (Sa Ko Rip Jaseh). | ||
6. Bring your right foot back next to your left foot forming a 90 degree angle, simultaneously perform a circular clockwise hammer fist strike (Kwon Do Kong Kyuk). | ||
7. Look straight ahead, step with your left foot into a left foot forward front stance (Chun Gul Jaseh), simultaneously perform a left hand center punch (Choong Dan Kong Kyuk). | ||
8. Look to your left, pivot on your right foot as you turn 90 degrees to your left into a left foot forward front stance (Chun Gul Jaseh), simultaneously perform a left hand low block (Ha Dan Mahk Kee). | ||
9. While in the same stance perform a left hand center knife hand block (Choon Dan So So Mahk Kee). | ||

1. Begin the form (Hyung) from the ready stance (Choon Be Jaseh). | ||
2. Look to your left, step with your left foot into a left foot forward front stance (Chun Gul Jaseh), simultaneously perform a left hand low block (Ha Dan Mahk Kee). | ||
3. Maintain stance and sight (Shi Sun) direction. Your weight shifts slightly to your rear leg in preparation, perform a right hand reverse high knife hand strike (Teul Oh Sang Dan Soo Do Kong Kyuk). | ||
4. Maintain sight (Shi Sun) direction. With both hands grab the neck area in a choking type motion. Elbows drop as you pull down and perform a right leg knee strike (Moo Roop Cha Gi). Forearms should be parallel wih the ground, the toes of the kicking foot are pointing down. | ||
5. Step forward with your right foot into a right foot forward front stance (Chun Gul Jaseh), simultaneously perform a right hand center punch (Choong Dan Kong Kyuk). | ||
6. Maintain stance and sight (Shi Sun) direction. Perform a left hand reverse middle punch (Teul Oh Choong Dan Kong Kyuk). | ||

3. Maintain stance and sight (Shi Sun) direction. Drop your right hand fist to your right hip then perform a right hand upper-cut strike, simultaneously the left hand fist pulls to above the right shoulder. | ||
4. Maintain sight (Shi Sun) direction, step with your left foot into a horse stance (Kee Ma Jaseh), simultaneously pull your left hand to the left side of your waist and perform a left hand side punch (Wheng Jin Kong Kyuk). | ||
5. Look to your right side, slide your right foot back into a right foot forward back stance (Hu Gul Jaseh), simultaneously perform a left hand high block (Sang Dan Mahk Kee) and a right hand inside-outside block (Ahneso Pahkuro Mahk Kee). | ||
